The town is holding the 35th Newport Annual Clam Chowder Cook Off on June 18th to start off the summertime fun.People come to New England expecting the best clam chowder, and there is no better way to determine the “best of the best” then a cook-off.
Fort Adam’s waterfront is the perfect location for the Newport Annual Clam Chowder Cook Off and is always a must-see when exploring Newport. Visitors come from all over to taste the infinite free samples of the unique creations from the competitors. Returning regional and national competitors are fighting for the title during this competition. Your votes determine the winner!
Not only will there be enthusiastic competitors will be at the Newport Annual Clam Chowder Cook Off, but Rhode Island celebrity appearances will make you want to purchase a ticket. Don’t worry about the kids; live music, face painting, balloon creations and more will keep them entertained. There is a little of everything for the whole family to enjoy.

The ticket also includes a second admission to the Newport Oyster Festival happening at the same location on June 18th. Matunuck Oyster Farm will have a farmer’s market style with a raw bar including multiple types of tasty oysters, clams, and shrimp. Delicious lobster rolls are likely to be the top seller. To top it off, there will be a full cash bar with beer, wine and cocktails. This event will take place from 11:00-6:00 along with more amusing activities.
The festival will have bistro-style tables with a view of the stage, where contests will be held throughout the day for the audience. The contests include oyster shucking, oyster slurping, and beer chugging. All you have to do for entry is to be at the stage 15 minutes prior to the contest. There is a prize for each winner.
If seafood is not your favorite, don’t worry there will be other delicious munchies to purchase. The other booths include Saugy’s Hot Dogs, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, Friskie Fries, Pizza Gourmet, Del’s Lemonade, Kettle Corn Express, McGrath Clambakes, and Macray’s Seafood II. Also Open Season Catering will be serving venison chili, pulled pork quesadilla, all American sliders, and veggie burgers.
Additionally,0 this event will be educational with presentations from the Matunuck Oyster Farm with Perry Raso. Meanwhile there will be several bands performing including DJ Nook, rock band Brian Scott Band, blues with Big Cat Blues Band, and Rhode Island’s favorite reggae band, The Ravers.
