Greenvale Farm was built by the present Generation’s Great, Great Great uncle, John Barstow of Boston throughout the early 1860’s. Barstow built Greenvale with some guidance from a book entitled Country Life by landscape theorist Richard Morris Copeland. Planned and designed by noted Boston architect John Hubbard Sturgis, Barstow’s intent was to establish a “rural agricultural retreat but one that would provide occupation as well as recreation,” as stipulated in Copeland’s book. Greenvale Farm was originally recognized for its prize winning livestock and in the 20th century we hope it will be recognized for its fine wines.
